Lose It! is free to download, and its Basic plan stays free for as long as you want: a personalized calorie budget, manual food logging from a 50-million-item database, weight tracking and community groups. Lose It! Premium costs $79.99 per year in the US and there is no monthly plan. The app regularly offers a 7-day free trial that converts to the annual charge on day 7. Lose It! Lifetime is a one-time $299.99, or $229.99 if you already pay for Premium. Every number on this page comes from Lose It's help center (updated September 9, 2026) and the app's own paywall, both checked on October 13, 2026.

Lose It! pricing at a glance (US, October 2026)

Want photo logging without the $79.99? BodyPal's free plan includes one AI photo scan, one label scan and one AI text search every single day, plus unlimited barcode scanning. Unlimited scans cost $29.99/year or $7.99/month, with no card needed to start.

Full disclosure: BodyPal is our own calorie-tracking app. The Lose It! facts on this page are quoted from Lose It's published help center and from screens we took inside the app, with dates, so you can verify every one of them. Where Lose It! is the better pick, we say so.

Drag the slider to see what Lose It! Premium ($79.99/year) and Lifetime ($299.99) add up to over time, and what the same period costs with BodyPal. All figures are US list prices with no sales applied.

Lose It! Premium at $79.99/year$239.97
Lose It! Lifetime bought as a Basic account$299.99
Lose It! 1 year Premium, then Lifetime at $229.99$309.98
BodyPal Premium at $29.99/year$89.97
BodyPal free plan (1 AI scan a day, unlimited barcodes)$0

Over 3 years, Premium ($239.97) is cheaper than Lifetime ($299.99). Lifetime starts winning in year 4.

Is Lose It free? What the Basic plan actually includes

Yes, and unlike some rivals it is not a disguised trial. Lose It's help center lists Lose It! Basic as a permanent $0 tier with "essential tracking tools, including a personalized daily calorie budget and access to our 50M+ food database". In practice that means you can finish the onboarding quiz, get a daily budget (our test account was given 1,630 calories), and log breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks by searching the database, every day, without ever entering a card.

What you also get free, according to the App Store listing: a weight-loss plan built from your body data and activity level, weight logging, and community support (friends and groups). Exercise logging and the basic calorie ring are free too.

What you will notice within the first minute is where the free plan ends. On our free account the macro view under the calorie ring was blurred out with an "Unlock your personalized nutrient view" prompt, a "Go Premium" pill sat in the top-left corner, and camera logging was listed as locked. Lose It! is honest about this: when you decline the trial, a "Switch to Basic Plan" screen lists exactly which parts of your freshly built program are Premium and will be cleared.

How much does Lose It Premium cost?

Lose It! Premium is $79.99 per year in the US, billed once and renewed automatically every year. That is the only recurring plan: Lose It's own pricing page lists Basic, Premium and Lifetime, and no monthly tier. Divided by twelve, Premium works out to roughly $6.67 a month, but you cannot actually pay it monthly.

What the price looks like outside the US. App Store prices are set per country, so the number on your paywall will differ. On an iPhone signed into an EU App Store on October 13, 2026, the Lose It! trial screen read "7 days free, then 84,99 € per year (7,08 €/mo)". At that day's exchange rate that is about $92, roughly 15% above the US price, which is typical for EU app pricing once VAT is included.

⚠️ Why the App Store listing shows prices from $9.99 to $59.99 The "In-App Purchases" section of Lose It's US App Store page still lists ten historical Premium products, from a $9.99 "Premium Features" item to $59.99 and "a year of premium features $39.99". Those are old SKUs that Apple keeps displaying; the paywall inside the app and Lose It's help center both say $79.99. If you have read that Lose It! Premium costs $39.99, that was the price we recorded in our August 2026 comparison; by October 2026 the help center lists $79.99.

Lose It price by country: US, EU, UK, Canada, Australia

Lose It! sets a separate price in every App Store and Google Play country, and only the US price is published on its website. The US and EU figures are the paywall prices we have seen ourselves on October 13, 2026. The UK, Canada and Australia figures are the highest annual Premium purchase published in each country's App Store listing on the same day; the store list can lag behind the in-app paywall (in the US it still showed $59.99 while the paywall said $79.99), so treat them as the floor, not the ceiling.

Two patterns hold across countries: the EU annual price runs about 15% above the US one once VAT is included, and the Canadian and Australian Lifetime ceilings on Google Play (CA$384.99, AU$449.99) are straight currency conversions of the $299.99 US Lifetime tier. Whatever your country, the line under "Start Free Trial" shows the exact amount you will be charged on day 7; read it before you tap.

Lose It free vs Premium: what is locked

This is the question that decides whether $79.99 is worth it to you. The list below combines Lose It's App Store description, its help-center feature list, and the "Switch to Basic Plan" screen we photographed when declining the trial.

FeatureBasic (free)Premium
Personalized daily calorie budgetYesYes
Manual food search and logging (50M+ foods)YesYes
Weight and exercise loggingYesYes
Community, friends and groupsYesYes
Barcode scannerNoYes
Photo meal logging ("Snap It")NoYes
AI voice loggingNoYes
Nutrition-label scanningNoYes
Macro targets (protein, carbs, fat) and nutrient viewBlurredYes
Custom goals: water, sleep, fibre, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, measurementsNoYes
Smartwatch and fitness-tracker syncNoYes
Intermittent fasting scheduleNoYes
Future meal logging and meal planningNoYes
GLP-1 medication tracking (new in 2026)Listed in the app description; tier not statedYes

The practical difference: with Basic you type every food. With Premium you point the camera at a plate, a barcode or a label. If your meals are mostly packaged products, the barcode scanner alone is the feature most people end up paying for, and it is worth knowing that several competing apps, including Cronometer and BodyPal, keep barcode scanning free.

The 7-day free trial: how it works and how to cancel

Lose It! says it "regularly" offers free trials of yearly Premium rather than guaranteeing one, but the new account we set up in October 2026 was shown the trial immediately after onboarding. The screen is unusually clear about the timeline, so here it is as the app presents it:

  1. Day 0, "Program Created": you finish the quiz and reach the paywall titled "How Your Free Trial Works". The button says "Start Free Trial" and the line under it reads "No Payment Due Now. 7 days free, then $79.99 per year". You must confirm with Apple Pay or Google Play, so a payment method is required.
  2. Day 1, "Build Momentum": all Premium tools unlock immediately, including photo logging and barcodes.
  3. Day 5, "Start Seeing Progress": Lose It! sends an email reminder that the trial is ending. Apple also sends its own reminder before a trial converts.
  4. Day 7, "Trial Ends": the subscription starts and $79.99 is charged. Lose It's help center says auto-renew must be turned off at least 24 hours before this moment.

To cancel, do not look inside Lose It!; subscriptions are managed by the store that billed you. On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Lose It! → Cancel. On Android: Google Play → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Lose It! → Cancel. Cancelling keeps Premium active until the trial or paid period ends, so there is no reason to wait until the last day.

💡 Decline the trial and you still keep the app Tapping the X on the paywall takes you to "Switch to Basic Plan", which lists the Premium items in your program (in our case a protein and fibre target, an intermittent-fasting schedule and camera logging) and offers "Continue with Basic Plan". Nothing is charged and your account stays free indefinitely.

Lose It Lifetime: the $299.99 one-time plan explained

Lifetime is Lose It's third tier and the one with the most fine print. It permanently unlocks Premium with no renewals, at $299.99 for a free or Basic account or $229.99 if you currently hold a paid Premium subscription (the discount is Lose It's way of crediting the time left on your annual plan). Four rules from the help center matter before you buy:

The break-even math: $299.99 equals 3.75 years of Premium at $79.99; $229.99 equals 2.9 years. If Lose It! raises the annual price again, as it did in 2026, break-even comes sooner. If you switch apps within three years, Lifetime loses. Most people do not know on day one which of those they are, which is why the trial first, then a year of Premium, then Lifetime at $229.99 is the order that wastes the least money.

How Lose It pricing compares with other calorie apps

At $79.99 a year, Lose It! Premium now sits at the top of the mainstream calorie-counter market, level with MyFitnessPal Premium. The chart shows annual list prices in the US App Store; the free tiers differ a lot, so read the notes.

Lose It!, BodyPal, YAZIO, Cal AI, MyFitnessPal and Cronometer prices verified in the US App Store and on the apps' own pricing pages on October 13, 2026. Lose It discounts: when does Premium go on sale?

Lose It! does not publish a discount calendar. Its help center says it "regularly" runs sales and free trials on yearly Premium and announces them "directly in the app and via email", and that active Premium members "may be eligible for a discount" when upgrading to Lifetime. To be told about them you need email notifications switched on under Profile → Settings → Email Preferences.

Three things worth knowing before you wait for a sale:

Is Lose It Premium worth $79.99? Who should pay, who should not

Premium makes sense if: you eat a lot of packaged or branded food and want the barcode scanner; you wear an Apple Watch, Fitbit or Garmin and want calories burned to flow into your budget automatically; you track macros or specific nutrients, not just calories; or you follow an intermittent-fasting schedule inside the same app. In all four cases the free plan will frustrate you within a week.

Stay on Basic if: you mostly cook from whole ingredients and search is fine; you only want a daily calorie number to stay under; or you are testing whether you will keep logging at all. The free budget, the food database and the community are the parts of Lose It! that reviewers praise most, and they cost nothing.

Think twice if: you want photo logging as your main input. At $79.99, Lose It! charges the top of the market for a feature that other apps include free in limited form, and its photo logging is a Premium-only add-on rather than the core of the app.

Lose It vs BodyPal: the price and free-tier comparison

Since we make BodyPal, here is the comparison stated as plainly as we can. Lose It! has a larger community, a longer track record (it launched in 2008) and GLP-1 tracking that we do not offer. BodyPal is built around AI photo logging and a verified 3M+ food database, and it is priced at less than half of Lose It! Premium.
