MyFitnessPal is free to use, with ads, for as long as you want: manual food and exercise logging, weight and progress tracking, and basic nutrition insights. MyFitnessPal Premium costs $19.99 a month or $79.99 a year in the US, and Premium+ costs $24.99 a month or $99.99 a year (it adds the Meal Planner). The barcode scanner, meal scan and voice logging are all paid features. First-time subscribers get a 7-day free trial. Every number on this page comes from MyFitnessPal's own pages, the App Store listings and the app's paywall, all checked on October 13, 2026.

MyFitnessPal pricing at a glance (US, October 2026)

Want barcode scanning without the $79.99? BodyPal keeps barcode scanning and manual logging free and unlimited, shows your macros on the free plan, has no ads, and adds one AI photo scan every day. Unlimited scans cost $29.99/year or $7.99/month, with no card needed to start.

Full disclosure: BodyPal is our own calorie-tracking app. The MyFitnessPal facts on this page are quoted from MyFitnessPal's published pages and from screens we took inside the app, with dates, so you can verify every one of them. Where MyFitnessPal is the better pick, we say so.

Is MyFitnessPal free? What the free version actually includes

Yes, and the free plan is still the one most of its users are on. MyFitnessPal's own Premium page describes the free tier as "Nutrition & Weight Tracking" and "Exercise Tracking", and the in-app Plans screen lists it as "food and fitness logging, progress tracking, nutrition insights". In practice you get a daily calorie goal, the full food database searched by name, meal-by-meal logging, exercise entries, weight check-ins and the basic progress charts, indefinitely and without a card.

Two things define the free experience in 2026. First, ads: on our free account the Today screen showed a banner ad between the macros card and the meal list, with the line "Get ad-free tracking in Premium, upgrade now" under it. Second, the barcode scanner is not free. MyFitnessPal moved it behind Premium in October 2022, and it has stayed there; the Plans screen lists "Log food faster: barcode and multi-day logging" as a Premium feature. If scanning packages is how you log, the free plan will feel like half an app.

What free users do keep is the thing MyFitnessPal is known for: the largest food database in the category, including millions of user-submitted entries. That breadth is why many people stay on the free tier and simply type the product name instead of scanning it.

How much does MyFitnessPal cost? Premium and Premium+ prices

MyFitnessPal Premium is $19.99 per month or $79.99 per year in the US. Premium+ is $24.99 per month or $99.99 per year. Both renew automatically through the App Store, Google Play or MyFitnessPal's website, and both unlock the same core features; Premium+ adds the Meal Planner. The annual plans are the ones to compare: paid monthly, Premium costs $239.88 a year, three times the annual price.

⚠️ Why people report two different Premium prices MyFitnessPal's community forum is full of threads titled "Why are there two different prices for Premium?". The answer is almost always one of three things: monthly versus annual billing ($19.99 a month looks nothing like $6.67 a month), Premium versus Premium+, or store country. The app you see on an iPhone bought in Europe shows euro prices set by Apple's tier table, not a conversion of the US price. The table below shows how far apart they are.

MyFitnessPal Premium vs Premium+: is the extra $20 worth it?

Premium+ is a bundle: Premium plus the Meal Planner, a tool that builds a week of meals around your calorie and macro targets, swaps dishes you do not like, and writes the grocery list. MyFitnessPal's own description puts the difference at "$1.67 more per month" on the annual plan, which is the $20 gap between $79.99 and $99.99.

MyFitnessPal price by country

Apple and Google price Premium per store country, so the number on your paywall depends on the country of your account, not where you are standing. The US and EU figures below are from MyFitnessPal's pages and the in-app paywall; the UK, Canada and Australia figures are the Premium purchases listed in each country's App Store on October 13, 2026 (for MyFitnessPal the store list matches the paywall: the US list shows exactly $79.99 and $19.99).

🇦🇺 AustraliaAU$129.99AU$29.99App Store in-app purchase list, Oct 13, 2026

The surprise is the euro price: 42,99 € a year is about $47 at October 2026 rates, roughly 40% less than the US annual price, while the UK, Canadian and Australian prices sit close to the US one. This is why "myfitnesspal premium cheapest country" is a real search; the honest answer is that Apple and Google tie the price to the country of your account, and changing that country is not something either store makes easy or intended.

MyFitnessPal free vs Premium: what is locked

The list below combines MyFitnessPal's Premium page, the in-app Plans screen we photographed, and what our free account could and could not do on October 13, 2026.

For most people the decision comes down to one row: the barcode scanner. It is the feature that makes a packaged-food diet loggable in seconds, and MyFitnessPal is one of the few major trackers that charges for it; Cronometer and BodyPal both keep it free, and Lose It! charges for it too.

The 7-day free trial: how it works and how to cancel

MyFitnessPal's Premium page is explicit: "If you've never upgraded to MyFitnessPal Premium or never started a Premium trial before, you are eligible for a 7-day free trial", and "the first Premium subscription charge on your credit card will take place at the end of your trial unless you cancel before then." Three practical consequences:

  1. One trial per account, ever. If you tried Premium in 2021 and cancelled, you will be charged from day one this time. Check your subscription history before you tap.
  2. The trial converts to the plan you selected. On the "Choose your plan" screen the annual plan is pre-selected ("Save 58%"), so an untouched trial becomes a $79.99 charge, not a $19.99 one. That is the better deal if you stay, and the bigger surprise if you forget.
  3. Cancel where you bought it, at least 24 hours before day 7. iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → MyFitnessPal → Cancel. Android: Google Play → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Web: myfitnesspal.com → Premium → Subscription Settings → turn off auto-renew. You keep Premium until the period ends.
💡 Declining costs nothing Tapping the X on the Plans screen drops you back on the free Today dashboard with your goal, your diary and the ads. Nothing is charged and nothing expires; the "Go Premium" pill simply stays in the corner.

How MyFitnessPal pricing compares with other calorie apps

At $79.99 a year, MyFitnessPal Premium shares the top of the mainstream calorie-counter price range with Lose It!, and Premium+ at $99.99 is the most expensive plan among the apps below. The chart shows annual list prices in the US App Store; the free tiers differ a lot, so read the notes.

MyFitnessPal discounts: does Premium go on sale?

MyFitnessPal does not publish a sale calendar, and the "Choose your plan" screen already presents the annual plan as the discount: "Save 58%" against paying monthly. Beyond that, here is what the searches for "myfitnesspal premium discount", "promo code" and "3 months free" actually lead to:

Is MyFitnessPal Premium worth $79.99? Who should pay, who should not

Premium makes sense if: you log mostly packaged and branded foods and want the barcode scanner back; you want macros in grams rather than percentages; the ads genuinely bother you; or you already rely on MyFitnessPal's database breadth and its 35+ device integrations and just want the friction removed. For a heavy user of packaged food, the scanner alone saves minutes a day.

Stay on Free if: you cook from whole ingredients and search is fine; you want a calorie number and a weight chart and nothing more; or you can live with a banner ad in the diary. The free tier is still a complete calorie counter with the biggest database in the category.

Think twice if: you are paying mainly for photo or voice logging. MyFitnessPal added meal scan in 2024, but it is a Premium add-on inside a search-first app, and the user-submitted entries it matches against are the top accuracy complaint in its reviews. If scanning is your primary way of logging, an app built around it, with a verified database, is the cheaper and cleaner path.

MyFitnessPal vs BodyPal: the price and free-tier comparison

Since we make BodyPal, here is the comparison as plainly as we can put it. MyFitnessPal has a far larger user base, a bigger food catalogue (including the user-submitted entries that cause its accuracy complaints), community forums, a web version and 35+ device integrations. BodyPal is built around AI photo logging and a verified 3M+ food database, has no ads, and is priced at less than half of MyFitnessPal Premium.

How much is MyFitnessPal per month?

$19.99 (Premium) or $24.99 (Premium+) paid monthly. Paid yearly, Premium works out to $6.67 a month and Premium+ to $8.33, which is why the paywall labels the annual plan "Save 58%".
