How many calories are in a shrimp burrito?

A regular shrimp burrito weighs about 220 g and carries 482 calories, or 219 calories per 100 g. That is a full lunch in one hand: 24.5 g of protein, 52.5 g of carbohydrate and 18.8 g of fat. Size moves the number more than the shrimp do, and the deli case sells a much lighter version.

You'd need to walk about 96 minutes to burn the 482 calories in one burrito (220 g).

Shrimp burrito quick facts

USDA has no full nutrient record for a shrimp burrito. Foundation, SR Legacy and FNDDS all stop at the generic wrap, and the only entries with the word "shrimp" on them are two packaged store labels with partial data. So the number on this page comes from FNDDS 2708534, "Burrito, NFS", the generic burrito record with a complete nutrient profile and three household sizes attached to it: miniature, regular and large. A made-to-order shrimp burrito carries the same tortilla, rice, cheese and salsa as its chicken cousin, so the generic record is the honest middle for a taqueria burrito you are holding right now.

The two real shrimp labels are not thrown away. They show up further down as the lighter deli version and the breaded fried one, because a packaged burrito and a made-to-order one are different foods with different fillings, not two readings of the same thing.

Numbers on this page come from USDA FoodData Central, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s food composition database, and from manufacturer labels where a branded product is named. Last verified September 2026. How we verify our data →

Two rows you would see on a package are missing here: added sugars and trans fat. USDA does not publish either one for FNDDS burrito records, so listing them would mean inventing them. Cholesterol and potassium do come through: 48 mg of cholesterol (16% DV) and 466 mg of potassium (10% DV) in the 220 g burrito.

Total sugars of 3.7 g are close to nothing for a food this size, and most of that is the tortilla and the tomato in the salsa rather than anything sweetened. Do not read that row against the 50 g added-sugars limit on the FDA Daily Value chart; total sugars have no Daily Value at all.

One large burrito330 g723 kcal

The miniature, regular and large sizes plus the cup are USDA household measures attached to the record itself. The 1 oz line is our own arithmetic from the USDA 100 g figure, not a USDA serving, and it is there mostly so you can price a bite off someone else's plate.

The cup is where people get burned. A cup of burrito is 120 g, barely more than half of a regular one, so logging "1 cup" when you ate the whole thing hides 219 calories. Cups measure volume, and a burrito is dense, tightly rolled and impossible to level off in a measuring cup. If you have a scale, weigh it. If you do not, the size you ordered is a better guide than any cup: miniature 241, regular 482, large 723.

The jump from regular to large is the single biggest lever on this page. It is 241 extra calories, the same as an entire miniature burrito added on top, and it comes from more of everything rather than from the shrimp.

Chicken burrito with cheese244 kcal1 burrito (220 g)537 kcal
Beef burrito with cheese267 kcal1 burrito (190 g)507 kcal

The Whole Foods Market cilantro lime shrimp burrito is the surprise of the group. At 172 calories per 100 g it is the lightest thing in the table per gram, and its 8 oz label serving lands at 390 calories even though it weighs slightly more than the 220 g taqueria burrito. The reason is on its own label: 1.76 g of fat per 100 g. Almost no cheese, almost no oil, shrimp and rice doing the work.

The crispy fried version looks like the winner at 260 calories, but that is a small 146 g burrito, and the breading changes what you get for the money. It runs 32.88 g of carbohydrate and only 2.74 g of protein per 100 g, which works out to about 4 g of protein in the whole burrito by our own arithmetic from the USDA 100 g figure. The regular shrimp burrito gives you six times that protein for less than double the calories.

Chicken and beef sit above shrimp on both counts. A chicken-and-cheese burrito of the same 220 g weight is 537 calories, and a beef-and-cheese one is 507 even though it is smaller at 190 g. Shrimp is the leanest protein you can put in a tortilla, and the numbers show it as long as nobody fries it first.

Sodium is the row to watch

Fat gets the blame and salt does the damage. One 220 g shrimp burrito carries 1,069 mg of sodium, 46% of the 2,300 mg Daily Value, against 18.8 g of fat at 24% DV. That is just under half a teaspoon of table salt in a single lunch item, before any hot sauce. Order the large and you are at 1,604 mg, roughly 70% of the day, which is our own arithmetic scaled from the USDA 100 g figure rather than a USDA serving.

Saturated fat is the other number worth a look: 7.7 g, or 38% of the daily limit, mostly from cheese and the rendered fat in the tortilla. The deli shrimp burrito ducks both problems, with 242 mg of sodium per 100 g against 486 mg in the generic record.

The upside is real too. Shrimp is a low-mercury seafood, and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans put at least 8 ounces of seafood a week on the list for adults. A burrito is a fairly painless way to get some of it, and at 24.5 g of protein it covers about half the 50 g protein Daily Value in one hand, which is more than most items in the MyPlate protein foods group deliver in a single serving.

How does a shrimp burrito compare?

BurritoPer 100 gUS servingCalories
Shrimp burrito (generic record)219 kcal1 burrito, 220 g482 kcal
Chicken burrito with cheese244 kcal1 burrito, 220 g537 kcal
Beef burrito with cheese267 kcal1 burrito, 190 g507 kcal
Meat burrito, no cheese262 kcal1 burrito, 220 g576 kcal

Our take: shrimp is the pick, and by a wider margin than the calorie column alone suggests. It is the lightest per gram of the four, and dropping the cheese from a meat burrito does not save you anything, since the no-cheese meat version is the heaviest serving on the table at 576 calories. If you are counting, order the shrimp burrito regular rather than large and skip the extra cheese and sour cream. If you are watching sodium instead of calories, the deli cilantro-lime version at 390 calories and 242 mg per 100 g beats every made-to-order option here.

Shrimp burrito FAQs

How many calories are in a shrimp burrito?

482 calories in a regular 220 g shrimp burrito, at 219 calories per 100 g. A miniature one is 241 and a large is 723. The USDA generic burrito record carries the number, since there is no full USDA nutrient profile for a shrimp burrito specifically.

How many calories in a large shrimp burrito?

723 calories for a 330 g large burrito, which is 241 more than the regular 220 g size. That gap is the same as adding an entire miniature burrito to your plate. The extra comes from more rice, more tortilla and more cheese, not from more shrimp.

How much protein is in a shrimp burrito?

24.5 g of protein in a 220 g burrito, which is 49% of the 50 g Daily Value. Per 100 g that is 11.12 g. A large one pushes past 36 g. The deli cilantro-lime version delivers about 25 g in its 8 oz serving, by our arithmetic from its label.

Is a shrimp burrito healthier than a chicken burrito?

482 calories against 537 for a chicken-and-cheese burrito of the same 220 g weight, so shrimp is lighter by 55. Chicken carries slightly more protein per 100 g, 13.74 g against 11.12 g. On calories the shrimp version wins; on protein density the chicken one does.

How many calories in a crispy fried shrimp burrito?

260 calories in a 146 g packaged fried shrimp burrito, or 178 per 100 g. The low total is a size effect, not a light meal. Breading pushes carbohydrate to 32.88 g per 100 g and drops protein to 2.74 g, about 4 g in the whole burrito.

How much sodium is in a shrimp burrito?

1,069 mg of sodium in a 220 g burrito, 46% of the 2,300 mg Daily Value and just under half a teaspoon of table salt. That is the biggest percentage on the label after protein, ahead of fat at 24%. The packaged deli version is far lower at 242 mg per 100 g.

How many carbs are in a shrimp burrito?

52.5 g of carbohydrate in a 220 g burrito, 19% of the Daily Value, plus 5.5 g of fiber. Per 100 g that is 23.87 g. Sugars are negligible at 3.7 g. The tortilla and rice carry nearly all of it, so a bowl instead of a wrap moves this row most.

Is a shrimp burrito good for weight loss?

482 calories is a workable lunch if the rest of the day is planned around it, and 24.5 g of protein plus 5.5 g of fiber help it hold. The traps are size and sodium: a large is 723, and one regular burrito is already 46% of the day's sodium.
